The Law of Midnight and Midday - Key to the Organs & Cycles
from Drs. Ralph and Lahni DeAmicis, NDs and Herbal Consultants

We understand that different body organs are active or resting at different times of the day. The times listed are when the organs are the strongest. They "kick on" so to speak at these times of day. The hour opposite the time listed is when that organ is the weakest. In shiatsu, this is referred to as "The Law of Midday and Midnight".

When we find a physical issue recurring at the same time each day, we can use this chart to determine which organ needs extra support. This has been very valuable for me with my non-verbal child - particularly with night time waking at a consistent time, but it also can help when we find ourselves particularly tired at a consistent time of the day.

When I was pregnant, I found I would get sleepy from 5-7pm - I worked on addressing kidneys as well as large intestine to help me with energy. I found extra water and exercise early in the day helped with this - walking and exercise helps stimulate the bowels and intestines.

My kids woke consistently at lung time - I found if I gave them ALJ (Alllergy, Lungs, Joints formula from NSP) before bed, they did not wake at that time. If I forgot, i could give it to them when they woke and they would go back to sleep. It worked so well for us, that I include links to the products I used to help my kids. It can be very helpful to at least have a place to start when trying to help a non verbal child. Of course, we should always consult a doctor before adding supplements to our children's diet.

Liver 1AM-3AM - Remedy I use for difficulty with this organ: Milk Thistle (best given during the day)

Lungs 3AM-5AM - Remedy I use for difficulty with this organ: ALJ Liquid

Large intestine 5AM-7AM - Remedy I use for difficulty with this organ: Gentle Move or LBS also liquid Catnip and Fennel for digestive issues for kids (Fennel tea in a bottle is also popular)

Stomach 7AM-9AM - Remedy I use for difficulty with this organ: Catnip and Fennel or Ginger caps

Spleen\pancreas 9AM-11AM - Remedy I use for difficulty with this organ: Cinnamon Balance or Sugar Reg because pancreas regulates sugar.

Heart 11AM-1PM - Remedy I use for difficulty with this organ: CoQ10 caps

Small intestine 1PM-3PM - Remedy I use for difficulty with this organ: Gentle Move or LBS also liquid Catnip and Fennel for digestive issues for kids (Fennel tea in a bottle is also popular)

Bladder 3PM-5PM - Remedy I use for difficulty with this organ: Cranberry Capsules - I use these because they are small and easy for kids to swallow. My kids learned to swallow caps with these.

Kidneys 5PM-7PM - I find Kidneys mostly want water, but there are several formulas for Kidneys available for activation and drainage.

Triple warmer 7PM-9PM - This is the three heat/energy centers of the upper, middle and lower sections of the body that should be in balance for a strong Immune system. Remedy I use for difficulty with this organ: AdaptaMax or Nervous Fatique

Lymphatic system 9PM-11PM - Remedy I use for difficulty: Lobelia Essence Liquid or Capsules also Lymph Gland Cleanse

Gall bladder 11PM-1AM - Remedy I use for difficulty with this organ: Gall Bladder Formula - for females, wild yam cream topically with a drop of lemon essential oil is my favorite

Times are shown as Standard Time - you need to do the math for local Daylight Time

I don't have remedies for all organs because I do not have experience with all organs.

Here's our little ditty to remember the first 6 systems

Liver, Lungs, Large Intestine, Stomach, Spleen, Heart, Hey!

Then the ditty for the second 6 systems:

The small, bald kid tripped and lymphed to gall.

(Small Intestine, Bladder, Kidneys, Triple Warmer, Lymphatic System, Gall Bladder)
