Law of Midday and Midnight

Key to the Organs & Cycles
from Drs. Ralph and Lahni DeAmicis, NDs and Herbal Consultants

We understand that different body organs are active or resting at different times of the day. The times listed are when the organs are the strongest. They “kick on” so to speak at these times of day. The hour opposite the time listed is when that organ is the weakest. In shiatsu, this is referred to as “The Law of Midday and Midnight”.

When we find a physical issue recurring at the same time each day, we can use this chart to determine which organ needs extra support. This has been very valuable for me with my non-verbal child – particularly with night time waking at a consistent time, but it also can help when we find ourselves particularly tired at a consistent time of the day.

When I was pregnant, I found I would get sleepy from 5-7pm – I worked on addressing kidneys as well as large intestine to help me with energy. I found extra water and exercise early in the day helped with this – walking and exercise helps stimulate the bowels and intestines.

My kids woke consistently at lung time – I found if I gave them ALJ (Alllergy, Lungs, Joints formula from NSP – now called Seasonal Allergy) before bed, they did not wake at that time. If I forgot, i could give it to them when they woke and they would go back to sleep. It worked so well for us, that I include links to the products I used to help my kids. It can be very helpful to at least have a place to start when trying to help a non verbal child. Of course, we should always consult a doctor before adding supplements to our children’s diet.

Liver 1AM-3AM
– I use Milk Thistle to help
(best given during the day)

Large intestine 5AM-7AM

also liquid Catnip and Fennel for digestive issues for babies
(Fennel tea in a bottle is also popular or this liquid on the feet under socks)

Stomach 7AM-9AM
– I use Catnip and Fennel or Ginger caps  to help

My kids learned to swallow caps with these.)

Dr. Christopher’s Gall Bladder formula rocks, too
